![]() ![]() This summer, there should be plenty to photograph. Due to a record snow pack this past wnter, high mountain trails will start to open up by mid-June. Consequently, starting later and lasting longer into the season, thundering waterfalls will fill the air with curtains of crystal-clear, sparkling drops. Colorful carpets of columbine, paintbrush, lupine, daisys and other mountain wildflowers bloom across the high country. Snow will linger on mountain tops, making a pristine contrast to that deep blue sky. Critters that slept through the long winter will be out enjoying the beauty, the flowers, the water.,. just like you. Before you book your trip or make plans to head up into the high country check with the Silverton Visitor Center (970) 387-5654, (or Ouray (970) 325-4746, Durango 970-828-1038, or other place you might want to stay) to see what roads are open. Another good source is Switzerland of America Off Road Tours, which will have 4XD tour vehicles on the trails as soon as they have been cleared. Just look at these photographs! You know you're going to come take pictures of your own. Photographs |
