There is plenty to do in Durango all summer long. Start your summertime adventures with Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort. Tucked into the beautiful San Juan Mountains twenty-five miles north of Durango, the resort touts daily activities for the whole family, festival and concert events throughout the summer, and world-class adventure racing and mountain bike competition. 

Purgatory activities include the alpine slide (pictured left), climbing wall, human maze, mini and disc golf, and the summer chairlift giving access to more than fifty miles of hiking and biking trails. Mountain Bike Adventures runs guided rides, and Purgatory Sports can set you up with equipment. Summer festivals and concerts include Music in the Mountains held in various locations, the Will Fjerstad Memorial Wine Fest in August and the San Juan Brewfest over Labor Day Weekend.

World-class competition returns to Purgatory with the Red Bull Divide & Conquer mountain sports relay in June. The race that starts in Silverton and finishes in Purgatory Village, and includes trail running, paragliding, kayaking and mountain biking.

Don’t miss the Durango Melodrama and Vaudeville at the Henry Strater. Located in the historic Strater hotel in Durango, Colorado, this great little theatre has been putting on shows and Melodrama since the early 1960’s when it housed the Diamond Circle Melodrama. Now, the Durango Melodrama has taken its place and proudly presents its summer production of “The Tavern” by George M Cohen with shows on Tuesdays thru Sundays from June 11 thru August 21, 2010.

As always, the show will be followed by a hilarious set of Vaudeville routines that are sure to end the night with a laugh and a song. You can hiss the villain, cheer the Hero, well you know the rest! This beautiful theatre is just the right setting for an affordable night of family fun and camaraderie.
